This story is an example of how we can correct the paths of our journey without continuing on in our self-sabotaging, wicked, divisive demeanor that lives in our flesh and spoils our spirit. With each generation there are those who try to live their lives according to their own purposes, not realizing that there is a greater picture. When you surrender to the Higher Power within you, you can do no wrong. One must first identify the Higher Power and know that the power is that of the The King of Kings, The Alpha and the Omega, The Beginning and the End, The Right one. He saw her through, forgave her wrong-doings and started her on her way to success. You too can be forgiven of all your offenses. The Master's Pottery Wheel is spinning you to perfection. Allow it to be so. Be still and know that someone's got your back, everything is seen and accounted for, and the Law of Reciprocity will prevail.Angels are watching over you and they fight your battles for you because you are Royalty. You are Majestic. You are loved beyond measure. Even though your enemies may wish you harm, it just will not happen because you are the King's Kid.Your eyes shall see and your ears shall hear your desire upon all enemies of your existence.Enjoy your reading and know that there is more in the depths of this foundation.

W.O. Mitchell’s Jake & The Kid: The Popular Radio Play as Art & Social Comment.

$18.23

W.O. Mitchell’s “Jake & The Kid” captivated radio audiences in the days before television and enjoyed ratings that rivalled those for the radio broadcasts of the CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada.” These homespun tales about the hired hand, Jake Trumper and his sidekick, The Kid, explored very human stories about life on the often cruel Prairies of Saskatchewan in a humorous vein that made a household name for the series across the breadth of Canada. Although he wrote many novels, most notably ” Who Has Seen the Wind,” featured during the ceremonies at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Mitchell was as well known for these folksy plays. They enabled him to hone his writing craft in a mass medium, when few other outlets were available; to tackle social issues of the day with a light hand, and to develop many of the themes he would explore in his later novels. This study analyzes these popular radio plays, their Prairie and literary roots, the production process and their contribution and critical reception.

This inside look at college football in 1959 follows the Syracuse University football team through their remarkable season. Led by a team captain, who as a young boy in Nazi Germany survived World War II, this improbable tale is at times humorous, other times poignant, but always brutally honest. It is a look back at a young black kid by the name of Ernie Davis, who would blaze a trail and then, tragically, be gone. At the tail end of a decade so rich in culture, we find this unique blend of young men coming together to create a lasting moment in time.

 ((Un)) [Bonus Tracks]

((Un)) [Bonus Tracks]

$10.99

Dan Black was one of the main proponents of the ? wonky pop? scene in late 2000s, that is, unabashedly ? pop? but with some brains and musical invention, and not just slavish re-creations of current musical trends designed to get your songs in the charts. His early singles (which are collected here on his debut album) were strutting, ultra-hooky songs that mixed up hip-hop, rock, funk, and pop into a very appealing sound fronted by Black? s smooth and insistent vocals. ? Yours? and ? Alone? are both very inventive tracks, and easy-to-digest songs that fans of radio pop could get into, “Symphonies,” which is his high point as an artist so far, slows things down and wraps Black? s voice in a beautiful string sample, and shows he can deliver some real emotion. In other words, Black? s singles are a perfect manifestation of wonky pop. ((Un)) works almost as well. The singles are the best tracks, but there is plenty of competition. The rocking, dancefloor filler “Pump My Pumps,” the stuttering, fake hip-hop jam “I Love Life,” and the fun and huge-sounding “U + Me =” all come very close to dethroning the previously released singles for top honors. Black? s arrangements are always fresh-sounding, never too glossy, and filled with surprising little touches that let you know you are in the hands of a whiz kid, not just a pop singer. ((Un)) is a very impressive first record that shows tons of promise. If Black can keep the right amount of wonky in his pop, he could do something truly wonderful (like an album full of songs as good as “Symphonies”). [The American release of the album adds three tracks, including a version of "Symphonies" featuring Kid Cudi rapping the verses.] ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi

 (I'm) Stranded [Australia Bonus Tracks]

(I’m) Stranded [Australia Bonus Tracks]

$19.98

The Saints were to Australia what the Sex Pistols were to Britain and the Ramones to America. Picking up the germ planted by the defunct Stooges, MC5, Velvet Underground, and New York Dolls, the Saints sparked the Far East punk rock movement with a blasting, blistering, scorching sound no one had heard before. Moreover, the Saints were blitzing the unsuspecting in their home of Brisbane in 1973, long before the Sex Pistols or the Ramones had even begun. Australians today hold the Saints in greater reverence than any rock band in its history, save for the Easybeats. After their incendiary, self-released debut 7″ single “(I’m) Stranded” b/w “No Time” blew minds of a raving British press on import in 1976, subsequent sales of the single proved to the industry that the upstart punk movement was in fact commercially viable. The Saints pocketed a worldwide deal with EMI Australia, who rush-released “(I’m) Stranded” in Australia and Britain (and in the U.S., on the heavyweight punk label of the time, Sire Records) to capitalize on the new trend. This first LP was actually nothing but eight rough-and-raw demo tracks the band had no intention of releasing, plus the two sides of the much better, cleaner-sounding single. The heavy, buzzing racket on the eight demo tracks borders on unintelligible, they’re so cheaply recorded, but nothing can stop a collection of cracklers this intense, with two absolutely astounding, blues-heavy ballads thrown in for great balance — “Messin’ with the Kid” and “Story of Love” drip with genuine, bratty soul. Of the hard-fast tracks, even today’s punk fans are amazed at the sheer tenacity and outright fire of “Nights in Venice,” “One Way Street,” and “Erotic Neurotic.” Hear history burning. [The 2007 Australian edition included 8 bonus tracks.] ~ Jack Rabid, Rovi

Much of the press heaped upon Simple Kid around the release of his debut 1 recycled the “Dylan of the new generation” clich? , and while that comparison has worked well for Beck, does anyone actually remember other “modern Dylans” like Block or John Oszajca? And truth be told, most of 1 sounds a bit like Beck, but very little like Bob Dylan, so wouldn’t that make Simple Kid a third-generation of Dylan? Either way, it’s no matter because the best moments on 1 are actually where Simple Kid apes a different ’60s figure — Ray Davies — for thrilling tales of mendacity. It’s songs like “The Average Man” and “The Commuter” where Simple Kid establishes his identity as a guitar-based storyteller; one who leans equally on post-alt rock soundscapes as he does on classic Britpop ranging from the Kinks to Blur. He falters when he indulges his sonic experiments, such as in the trippy “Drugs,” or “Love’s an Enigma, which both sound like third-rate Super Furry Animals. It’s the chunky power pop and twee falsetto in songs like “Staring at the Sun that make 1 feel like a celebration of ’90s Britpop, ten years on, only with some modern flourishes sprinkled in. It’s true that the shifting styles make 1 something of a rocky listen — especially when the tempo drags so much in the middle of the album — but the good bits, the truly adventurous bits, are where Simple Kid is content to sit still and write about other people who are also sitting still. ~ Jason Damas, Rovi

How do I know I have a ‘new life’ in Christ?” Are these some of the questions you have about God? Many kids your age have decided to make a commitment to follow Jesus. And many of them, just like you, have questions about what it all means. If these are some of the questions you have about God, or you’re looking for a simple way to answer these questions for a friend, then this book is written just for you! Helping you understand what having a relationship with God is all about… Teaching you just what you ought to know about being saved, going to church, prayer, serving God… These biblical truths are essential to building your Christian walk. Let’s take that first step together!

 13-Point Program to Destroy America

13-Point Program to Destroy America

$12.98

A raging collection of songs preaching an ideology of insomnia, teenage rebellion, and sharp dressing, the Nation of Ulysses’ 13-Point Program to Destroy America comes across as a blueprint for the complete overthrow of adult society in favor of one ruled entirely by the cool kids. Nearly every track on the album is played at breakneck speed, and the overall message is one of uprising. “A Kid Who Tells on Another Kid Is a Dead Kid” and “Cool Senior High School (Fight Song)” extol the virtues of kids sticking together to exclude those not fit for the glorious new society, namely grown-ups and squares. All the songs are punk gems, and after a couple of listens the revolutionary rhetoric starts to sounds pretty damn exciting, maybe because it’s not entirely clear whether or not the Nation of Ulysses is serious or just playing a joke on all the indie rock hipsters. Either way, it’s hard for anyone to not enjoy songs like “Look Out! Soul Is Back” and “Today I Met the Girl I’m Going to Marry.” The revolution might not be here quite yet, but when it comes, be sure to have this album as proof to your worthiness. ~ Brandon Gentry, Rovi

I had an idea to staple my brother’’s hair to his pillow. I am not allowed to use the stapler anymore. Here’’s a kid full of ideas, all day long. For example, in the morning, gluing her brother’’s bunny slippers to the floor sounds like a good plan. But now she’’s not allowed to use glue anymore. And what about when she shows Joey Whipple her underpants–they”re only underpants, right? Turns out she’’s not allowed to do that again, either. And isn”t broccoli the perfect gift for any brother? It’’s just too bad her parents don”t think so. But she has the last laugh in this humerous first picture book by an acclaimed novelist of books for adults. From the Hardcover edition.

1877: America's Year of Living Violently

1877: America’s Year of Living Violently

$19.95

1776, 1945, 1968 . . . some years take on an identity of their own, and live on in the nation’s memory as watersheds or turning points in our collective history. 1877, in contrast—a year no less pivotal—marked a time many Americans longed to forget. In the book Publishers Weekly called a “solid, deeply informed history,” historian Michael A. Bellesiles brilliantly recaptures one of the most tumultuous years in U.S. history—describing a time of nearly unimaginable violence and upheaval. Amid the messy aftermath of the Civil War, the country was gripped by a deep depression. White supremacist mobs swept across the South, killing and driving out the last of the Reconstruction state governments. A strike involving millions of railroad workers turned violent as it spread from coast to coast, and for a moment seemed close to toppling the nation’s economic structure. And, following a highly contested presidential election, it looked as though the country would not have a president by inauguration day, March 5, 1877.This entertaining and richly documented tale is related through the lives of famous and little-known Americans, including Chief Joseph, Walt Whitman, Billy the Kid, The Molly Maguires, Jacob Riis, Allan Pinkerton, and Booker T. Washington.Published in hardcover to nation-wide attention, 1877 is a new story of America at the dawn of its modern era, one that will forever alter our understanding of the forces shaping our politics, our culture, and our national identity.

It was the first film to feature the Hepworth’s family dog Blair in a starring role; following the release, the dog became a household name and he is considered to be the first dog film star. The film was an advance in filming techniques in editing, production and story telling. Four hundred prints were sold, so many that the negatives wore out twice, requiring the film to be re-shot each time. Two professional actors were paid to appear, and the film is cited as the first film to have used paid actors. The style of shooting and editing would bridge the gap between the styles of directors Edwin Stanton Porter and D. W…. More:

The plot chronicles the lives of those living and working on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat, from 1880 to 1927. The show’s dominant themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love. Show Boat is widely considered one of the most influential works of the American musical theatre. As the first true American “musical play”, it marked a significant departure from operettas, light musical comedies of the 1890s and early 20th century and the “Follies”-type musical revues that had defined Broadway. Fictional character biographies Larry Jordan Law clerk Lawrence ‘Larry’ Jordan had recently graduated from law school and was an intern at the Brooklyn District Attorney office. Noticing the rise of crime , Jordan decided to become a costumed crimefighter using technology, and used his interests in radio and electronics to create his equipment, including a cowl radio system that allowed him to listen in on police reports and special skates that enabled him to travel along telephone lines. He was accompanied by an outspoken parrot named Static, who occasionally aided him in battle (and, for narrative purposes, gave him someone with whom he could converse in order to provide extrapolative information to the reader; parrot sidekicks served a similar purpose for Quality Comics ’s Madame Fatal , Hillman Comics ’s Twilight , and others). His superhero activities were noticeable enough for President Franklin Roosevelt to request his participation in the All-Star Squadron .
