When you were a kid, what was your favorite Bedtime Story?
I had three: Peter Cottontail, Jack & the Beanstalk, and, the Three Pigs.
I liked the Three Pigs because it was a short story, and I could often
get another story after that.
If you’re one of the people who didn’t get a bedtime story, I’m sorry. Really.
I LOVED “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde. My papa would frequently rock me and read it aloud to me because I was so emotionally attached to that simple, little story.
I liked it so much that I introduced it to all my kids, and it became a Christmas Eve tradition for my family. I would read it (and also “A Visit From St. Nicholas”) aloud to my kids as we sat by the Christmas tree. I would do all the voice changes with the different characters and the little ones would chuckle over it. I was pleased to see the cartoon version of it is available on You Tube.

Davy Wave $8.58 What is a wave? Not the kind you motion with your hand, but the kind that swirls in the sea or the ocean or the lake. Davy starts out as a little lap around Momma Dock at the top of Big Bay. Upon becoming a wave, he rolls down the bay and toward many adventures. He splashes waders, saves a drowning boy, meets lovely Sally the Sailboat, gives rides to porpoises and surfers, gets caught in a hurricane, aids a floundering ship, and then rolls ashore on a lovely beach, where he rests in the calm waters until more escapades come his way. Davy Wave is a bedtime story meant to send children to sleep feeling safe and protected. It’s a short story about a little lap that becomes a real wave and then sets off on his journey. This charming and imaginative tale is happy, fun-filled, adventurous, and will captivate children as it sends them off to soothing dreamland. David Druhan is a retired pediatrician. Growing up in Mobile, Alabama, he graduated from the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham. After training at the Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, he practiced pediatrics for three years in the Army, then nearly 40 years in Opelika, Alabama. He is the father of five and the grandfather of nine.Publisher’s website: http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/DavyWave.html |

Miss Flavia And The Cookie Cottage $7.39 Book 1 in the collection ~Miss Flavia™ bakes the most delightful sweets in all of Streusel . . . but she has a secret. Discover how gingerbread cookies, a dream, and a little girl named Eden help solve her dilemma! Also Included in the book: • Discover the thrill of learning new vocabulary words. The book includes words in bold placed throughout the story, and an easy-to-follow glossary at the end. • The book also has an interactive recipe from Miss Flavia’s personal bakery. It lists specific Adult/Child instructions so you can bake your own delicious sweet Gingerbread People cookies. ————–”Miss Flavia™ was inspired by my imaginative daughter “Inky”. One night, while suffering from a mild cold, she asked me to tell her a story about gingerbread men. I told her the only one I could think of was the gingerbread cookie in “Shrek”, but he didn’t play a very substantial role.Within thirty minutes Miss Flavia came to life… The following night, she wanted to hear the same story. I told it as I remembered it, but of course when it’s nine o’clock at night the details sometimes become smudged. “Inky” filled in the gaps in the story, fell asleep, and yet again asked to hear the story the following night. This time I was prepared. After the second request, I sat in front of my computer and wrote the story with vivid details and a much more creative plot. I kept the story available in case I needed to refer to it for another bedtime reading. A short while later, I mentioned the tale to my best friend (she is a successful first grade teacher . . . and I value her opinion above many people). I gave her a quick synopsis of the anecdote. With muchencouragement from her and my wonderful husband, I decided to pursue publishing it. I contacted a close friend (Starla Cologne) and we began producing Miss Flavia and the Cookie Cottage.” -Kristina Edelkamp Schmidt |
