Do you think that the new Catholic Bookshop in Salford will be as popular as the bookshop in Heron Square?
I am not a catholic myself but I have visited the bookshop in heron square on a few occasions , one day I learned from Mother Teresa’s book that she associates to greater love. I did not actually buy the book then but bought one at a later date, which I no longer have. Do you think the books in Salford would apply more to academics?
What are the two shop’s websites?

Yellow-Lighted Bookshop $9.19 "I cannot remember when I read a book with such delight. " –Paul Yamazaki, City Lights Bookstore November, a dark, rainy Tuesday, late afternoon. This is my ideal time to be in a bookstore. The shortened light of the afternoon and the idleness and hush of the hour gather everything close, the shelves and the books and the few other customers who graze head-bent in the narrow aisles. I’ve come to find a book. In The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop , Buzbee, a former bookseller and sales representative, celebrates the unique experience of the bookstore–the smell and touch of books, getting lost in the deep canyons of shelves, and the silent community of readers. He shares his passion for books, which began with ordering through The Weekly Reader in grade school. Interwoven throughout is a fascinating historical account of the bookseller’s trade–from the great Alexandria library with an estimated one million papyrus scrolls to Sylvia Beach’s famous Paris bookstore, Shakespeare and Company, which led to the extraordinary effort to publish and sell James Joyce’s Ulysses during the 1920s. Rich with anecdotes, The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop is the perfect choice for those who relish the enduring pleasures of spending an afternoon finding just the right book. |

121 Days of Urban Sodom $0.99 Our unnamed narrator takes her readers through an unusual resolution of lost love-six months after parting from her girlfriend Colette, she’s still in pain. So she allows herself one hundred and twenty-one days to recover, while at the same time undertaking a journey into the Marquis de Sade’s One Hundred and Twenty Days of Sodom. Thus does our narrator catalogue her fall from the intense emotion of young innocent love to despairing bitter debauchery, and at the same time exposes Sade’s role in her own modern life. This novel is not solely an edgy, explicit tale, nor is it merely a sour-sweet love story. This gripping novel breaks all boundaries and knows few confines.A fascinating examination of lust and sadism, with a modern and original style, from an exciting new literary writer.”It is not of the imagination that the sharpest pleasures arise?”-the Marquis de SadeBreak-through new talent Jacqueline Phillips, born in the English Midlands in 1973, did her first poetry reading at a women’s bookshop at 18, and has had many subsequent colorful experiences. 84 Charing Cross Road (Film) $47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! 84 Charing Cross Road is a 1987 British/American drama film directed by David Hugh Jones. The screenplay by Hugh Whitemore is based on a play by James Roose-Evans, which itself was an adaptation of the 1970 epistolary memoir of the same name by Helene Hanff, a compilation of letters between herself and Frank Doel dating from 1949 to 1968. Although the play has only two characters, the dramatis personae for the film were expanded to include Hanff’s Manhattan friends, the bookshop staff, and Doel’s wife Nora. In 1949 Helene Hanff, in search of obscure classics and British literature titles she has been unable to find in New York City, notices an ad placed by antiquarian booksellers Marks & Co located at the titular address in London in the Saturday Review of Literature. She contacts the shop and manager Frank Doel fulfills her requests. A long distance friendship evolves over time, not only between the two but between Hanff and other staff members as well, including birthday gifts, holiday packages, and food parcels to compensate for post-World War II food shortages in England. |

A Black & White Statement: The Story of the Rondos $25.99 The box set contains two CDs and four books, which together tell the story of the Rondos from the period 1978–1980.• CD 1 with a Rondos live concert from 1978 • CD 2 with all the Rondos songs previously released on vinyl between 1978-80• Art in Revolution Calls: 228 page photo book from the Rondos archives• A Black & White Statement: 84 page autobiography (bi-lingual) of the Rondos.• Destroy the Entertainment: 60 page lyric book, in English• Graffiti and Aerosols: 48 page comic book, with two new adventures of Red RatBetween 1978-80, the Rondos did 50 live shows. They released their records on their own independent label, King Kong Records, and together with three other bands (Rode Wig, Tändstickor Shocks, and Sovjets) formed the Rotterdam music collective “Red Rock,” with whom they shared gigs, equipment, and rehearsal space. Punk for the Rondos obviously meant more than “entertainment,” hence their slogan “Punk = Resistance.” Their independently published fanzine Raket (“Rocket”) quickly became the mouthpiece of many Dutch youth who turned their backs on consumerist society. The Rondos operated from the house called Huize Schoonderloo, a building that they saved from demolition and turned into a living and working space. Here they operated a print shop, a rehearsal room, and the alternative bookshop “Raketbasis” (“Rocketbase”). The Rondos gathered a fanatic and devoted following, but unhappy with the fact that this devotion threatened to turn them into punk heroes, which had nothing to do with their own idea of punk, the Rondos called it a day. The Rondos stem from the same generation of bands such as The Ex (in the Netherlands) and Crass (in England) with whom they shared equipment, stages, floor space, and in some cases, band members. |

A History Of Rome Under The Emperors $44.95 This book caused a sensation when it was published in Germany in 1992, and was front page news in many newspapers. For readers of English, it will be an authoritative survey of four centuries of Roman history, and a unique window on the German tradition of the last century.Theodor Mommsen (d. 1903) was one of the greatest Roman historians of the nineteenth century, and the only one ever to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. His fame rests on his History of Rome as well as his work on Roman law and on the Roman provinces. But the work that would have concluded his history of Rome – which ran to the reign of Augustus – was never completed. This book represents that great lost work.In 1980 Alexander Demandt discovered in an antiquarian bookshop a full and detailed handwritten transcript of the lectures on the Roman Empire, which Mommsen gave for many years from 1863 to 1886, made by two of his students. This transcript has been edited to provide the authoritative reconstruction of the book Mommsen never wrote, A History of Rome Under the Emperors.Barbara and Alexander Demandt have carefully edited the text and provided detailed annotation and explanatory references. For the English edition, Professor Thomas Wiedemann has written an introduction which surveys Mommsen’s position and influence in nineteenth century German scholarship and introduces his work for English speaking readers. |

A Spider on the Stairs $6.99 Best friends Phillip Bethancourt, a wealthy man-about-town, and Scotland Yard Detective Sergeant Jack Gibbons are each on their way to Yorkshire over Christmas, though not together, and neither of them are looking forward to their respective trips. While Phillip is returning to his family’s estate to spend the holiday with relatives—-a dreaded task—-Jack must determine whether a particular murder is the work of a serial killer. It looks like it most likely is. As it turns out, Jack isn’t on the case for more than a day before the understaffed locals ask him to look in to another.Jodie Farrady, a former bookshop employee who disappeared about a year ago, is found strangled in that same shop Christmas morning. The modus operandi is similar to the serial killer’s, but not exactly the same. It could be a copycat. It could be a coincidence. Either way, Jack could certainly use his good friend’s help as he investigates the citizens of a Yorkshire that has suddenly turned quite deadly. Luckily, Phillip is all too eager to escape his own holiday and join the hunt.A Spider on the Stairs—-Cassandra Chan’s contemporary reimagining of the classic English mystery—-is not only a tale that is every bit as delightful and charming as the luminaries in this beloved tradition, but by far its most worthy heir. |
